What is the Bigger Hammer?
The Bigger Hammer is a small business based in Syracuse, Utah that provides maintenance and repair services for residential homes.
What services do you provide?
We have found our niche to be in small jobs that can be accomplished easily and with a few hours and with minimal equipment. Many projects include painting, drywall repair, and trim but can also include concrete, siding, finish carpentry and more.
What areas do you service?
We currently only perform services in Weber and Davis counties.
How are team members compensated?
Independent contractors are compensated based on the type of project, but in most cases, they can make around $25-30 per hour.
How often will I be paid?
We pay our independent contractors on a weekly basis.
What will my schedule be?
As an independent contractor, you are free to set your own schedule. You let us know when you want to take on work and we will provide projects to fill that time. However, we expect that when you take a project you’ll get it done in a timely fashion.
How many hours can I work?
You can work as many hours as you have time and we have projects. Handyman work can be very physically demanding. We recommend not working too many hours that you get burned out, both physically and emotionally. It’s important to have a good work-life balance so that you can be focused and perform at your best.
Will I need my own transportation?
Yes, you are responsible for your own transportation. In most cases, you will need a truck or vehicle with a trailer to haul tools and material.
What tools will I need?
Projects can range from basic as changing light bulbs and painting but can get as complicated as repairing decks or replacing doors. You will be required to provide the tools necessary to take on the projects you want. For a full list of recommended tools see our tool page here.
The Bigger Hammer does offer a loaner tool program for those larger pieces of equipment that are use less often. Please see our listing of loaner tools here. This tools are free to use for being part of the team.
What documents will I need?
If you feel that joining our team is right for you please complete all the documents here. The basics will include a business license and liability insurance.
Will I need liability insurance?
Yes, all of our independent contractors are required to carry liability insurance to protect all parties involved.
Is the Bigger Hammer a General Contractor?
No, we operate under Utah handyman exemption.
Do I have to have a handyman license?
No, but the jobs we can offer you will be limited to $1000 in labor and material.
Do you offer health benefits?
No, we do not offer health benefits to our independent contracts.
Do you offer retirement benefits?
No, we do not offer retirement benefits to our independent contracts.
